Difference Between Felonies & Misdemeanors
The maximum jail time a person can get for a misdemeanor in Georgia is 12 months.  Felony prison sentences range from a minimum of one year to life imprisonment or even death.  Obviously, felonies are much more serious than misdemeanors.

Felonies are prosecuted in the Superior Court of each Georgia county by the District Attorney.  Misdemeanors are prosecuted in Superior Court as well, except that in larger counties, there is an additional court called a State Court where Solicitors prosecute the cases.
